Mayor of Tampa Proclaims July Sandwich Generation Month
With this month's proclamation, the city of Tampa joins the growing list of cities and states across the country setting aside the month of July to honor those unheralded caregivers who are working so hard day after day to maintain healthy multi-generational families, particularly the 1 of every 8 Americans aged 40-60 who are caring for both their children as well as their own aging parents (the Sandwich Generation).
About Sandwich Generation Month
Created in 2007 by the Sandwich Generation Resource Group led by GRISWOLD SPECIAL CARE, Sandwich Generation Month is an officially registered annual observation with the National Special Events Registry and Chase's Calendar of Events occurring each July 1-31.
It is the goal of Sandwich Generation Month to heighten awareness of the special needs and the community support available to the members of the Sandwich Generation.
Upcoming Events
As a major sponsor of Sandwich Generation Month, GRISWOLD SPECIAL CARE offices across the county will spend the month encouraging everyone within their community to develop activities to celebrate our area Sandwich Generation families and to make those families aware of the wide array of support available to them.
This July:
·     The Tampa West Office will be visiting local high schools, middle schools, churches and media outlets to distribute ice cream sandwiches and other “sandwich” items to bring attention to the month and its significance.
In addition, the office will be holding an abbreviated version of a seminar they sponsored in May entitled "The Talk: what our seniors and their adult children need to know about growing older gracefully and remaining independent as long as possible. See the SGM website (next section) for details.
